Valentine Cereal Treats

Ingredients

  • Silicone mold with heart-shaped sections
  • Cooking spray
  • Baking sheet
  • Wax paper
  • 3 tbsp butter or margarine divided
  • 3 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 5 cups rice cereal divided
  • 2 drops red gel food coloring
  • 2 drops violet gel food coloring
  • Small heart-shaped cookie cutter

Instructions

  1. Begin by spraying your silicone mold with cooking spray and set aside. Line a baking sheet with wax paper and set aside as well.
  2. In a medium-sized saucepan, melt 2 tbsp butter over medium heat. Add 2 cups miniature marshmallows and allow to melt.
  3. Once melted, add red gel food coloring and remove from heat. Mix until marshmallow mixture is well tinted and then add 3 cups rice cereal and fold.
  4. Press the pink rice cereal treats into each heart-shaped section of your silicone mold.
  5. In a smaller saucepan, melt remaining butter and add remaining marshmallows (you should have 1 cup left). Allow to melt and add violet food coloring and mix. Remove from heat.
  6. Fold in remaining 2 cups rice cereal and flatten it onto your lined baking sheet.
  7. Remove your heart-shaped pink cereal treats from its mold and using your smaller cookie cutter, cut out a small heart from the center of each one.
  8. Using the same cookie cutter, cut out 6 small hearts from your purple rice cereal treats. (Save the scraps to snack on later!)
  9. Place the small violet hearts in the center of each larger cereal treat.
  10. Serve and enjoy!
