Lovebug Ladybug Cookies

I can remember when I was a little girl and I saw a ladybug my mom would always say ladybugs mean LOVE and to treat them with kindness. I just love ladybugs.
Wouldn’t these Lovebug Ladybug Cookies be perfect for Valentine’s Day or served at a Valentine’s Party? They make all kinds of cute little tins and boxes you can get at the dollar store. I love giving cookies to neighbors, teachers, my postal worker of course friends and family. I believe we need to spread more love in this world.

These cookies are super easy to make. You can make from scratch, you can use a sugar cookie mix, a slice and bake or heck buy some unfrosted sugar cookies from your local bakery whatever is easiest for you. The decorating is the fun part anyway. The decorating instructions are below, get the kids involved in the decorating they’ll forever have a love for ladybugs.

Ingredients

  • 12 of your favorite sugar cookies cut out into circles, about 1.5 inches in diameter
  • 3-5 oz. red fondant
  • 2-3 oz. black fondant
  • 24 candy googly eyes
  • Pink decorating frosting

Instructions

  1. Before beginning, you must ensure that your cookies are completely cool. The quickest way to do this is to allow them to cool on a wire rack.
  2. Roll out your red fondant so that it’s about ¼ of an inch thick. With the same cookie cutter, you used to cut out your cookies, cut out 12 circle pieces.
  3. Press one red fondant circle onto each cookie and smoothen out.
  4. With your cookie cutter, cut out 6 circles from your black fondant. Using a butter knife, cut the circle in half. Press the demi circle onto each cookie – this will act as the ladybug’s head.
  5. Using Wilton icing tip #12, cut out small circles from the black fondant and press onto the body of each ladybug. You can use 3-4 dots for each ladybug.
  6. Add 2 googly candy eyes on each ladybug. With your pink decorating frosting, frost out a little heart on each of your ladybugs’ head.
  7. Serve and enjoy!
