Christmas Tree Cookies

Christmas is almost here, which means cookies are probably on your to-do list. Every year I make several types of cookies, but decorated cookies have always been my favorite. There is something so special about a plate of beautifully cookies.

This Sugar Cookie is so simple to make because it starts with premade dough. You can always use your own sugar cookie recipe but I find I just don’t have time, so I take every shortcut I can get. I do however find the time to make homemade buttercream because you just can’t beat the sweet, smooth taste of homemade buttercream.

  • Sugar cookie dough – enough to make one dozen triangular shapes
  • 1 stick butter softened
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 3-5 tbsp milk
  • ¼ tsp Kelly green gel food coloring
  • Small candies of assorted colors
  • 4 mini pretzel sticks

  1. With a triangular cookie cutter, cut out 12 cookies and bake according to directions. Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack before decorating.
  2. Using a stand mixer or an electric mixer, beat softened butter, sugar and milk. Add gel food coloring until completely tinted. The buttercream is ready once it is smooth and forms semi-stiff peaks.
  3. Using a frosting bag, frost each cookie in a back and forth motion.
  4. Break your mini pretzel sticks into thirds and place one on the bottom of each cookie.
  5. Sprinkle with candies and happy holidays!
