Grinch Cake

My House has Grinch fever since The Grinch Movie came out yesterday. We are headed to see it today and when we get back we’re having this Grinch cake. It’s super simple to make since it starts with 2 box cake mixes. Get the kids involved they’ll love making this cake with you and enjoy eating it even more.

  • 2 white cake mixes and ingredients indicated on the box *
  • Vanilla Frosting
  • Red Food Coloring
  • Green Food Coloring
  • Vanilla Icing
  • Heart Sprinkles
  • Heart Cookie Cutter


  1. Prepare the first cake mix according to package instructions.
  2. Color the cake mix red. The gel food coloring works best.
  3. Bake the cake in a loaf pan following the instructions on the box.
  4. Remove from pan and allow to cool.
  5. Cut the cake into slices.
  6. Using a small heart cookie cutter, cut out as many hearts as you can from the cake.
  7. Spray a second loaf pan with nonstick spray. Lay the hearts that you just cut out on their side in a line across the bottom of the pan.
  8. Prepare the second cake mix according to package instructions.
  9. Color the mix green.
  10. Pour the mix into the pan over and around the hearts.

  11. Bake the cake according to the box instructions.
  12. Allow the cake to fully cool.
  13. Tint your vanilla frosting green.
  14. Frost the cake and sprinkle with heart sprinkles.
  15. When you cut your cake, it will be a grinchy green with the red heart inside!

*Do not get extra moist cake mix.
