Frog on a Lily Pad Cupcakes

I think these Frogs on a Lily Pad Cupcakes are some of the cutest cupcakes I have ever made. The frogs are made out of fruit chews. I included a picture of the candy I used below. Also if you don’t have time to make your own cupcakes, go to your local bakery and pick up a 1/2 dozen premade unfrosted cupcakes. No one will no you didn’t slave in the kitchen.  This is a fun project to get the kids involved in. You’re going to get so many compliments on these cupcakes. These cupcakes are such a cute and fun party treat!

Servings 6

  • 6 Prepared Cupcakes unfrosted
  • - 1 Container Blue Frosting
  • - 6 oz. Wilton Candy Melts Green
  • - 10-12 Green Fruit Chews Candy tootsie Rolls
  • - 1 pkg. Jujyfruits Candy
  • - 12 Edible Googly Eyeballs
  • - 6 Wilton Mini Candy Lips
  • - Optional: 1 pkg. Mini Swedish Fish

  1. Melt the candy melts according to package directions and put into a small plastic baggie. Cut a tiny corner off the bag. On a piece of wax paper, pipe 6 lily pad shapes making sure they are a little smaller than the top of the cupcakes. Let these harden.
  2. To make the frog body, soften a fruit chew for a few seconds in the microwave. Form the fruit chew into a ball that looks just a little squished. Make 6 of these.
  3. For the frogs four legs, soften a fruit chew for a few seconds in the microwave, and tear off 2 tiny pieces and form into flat little egg shapes. These are the front legs. Split the remaining piece of fruit chew in half and form each of those pieces into flat round circles for the back legs. Make 6 sets of each of the front and back legs.
  4. On a piece of parchment paper, set a pair of back legs down so they are side by side and set a frog body on top of them. Press down a little so it sticks to the legs. Take a set of front legs and press them on the bottom front of the body.
  5. To attach the eyeballs, put a dot of frosting on the top of the frog body and set two eyes on them. Put a dot of frosting on the back of the lips and stick those to the frog’s body under the eyes.
  6. Frost the cupcakes with the blue frosting. After you get a layer of frosting on, take a knife and touch around the frosting and gently pull up so it looks like water waves.
  7. Set a lily pad on top of each cupcake. Put a dab of frosting on each lily pad and set a frog on top of each of them.
  8. Pick out the little gummy flowers from the Jujyfruit candy and set one on each lily pad.
  9. An optional step: Cut the mini fish in half and stick a head of the fish into the frosting so it looks like a fish is starting to come out of the water.
